For B. Maxwell, radio has never been just about playing records.

As Chief Executive Officer and Founder of The Southern Soul Hub Media Network and host of Blues and Classic R&B Soul with B. Maxwell, he represents the continuation of a radio tradition with deep roots along Florida's Gulf Coast.
The history surrounding the show reaches back to the early 1970s. In 1981, the late C.C. B. Maxwell became part of that tradition while a student broadcaster, using the radio name Moses K. What began as a place for Blues, Soul, and R&B on the air grew into something larger than a weekly program. It became part of the musical rhythm of the community.
B. Maxwell has carried that spirit forward.
Today, every Saturday morning from 7:00 AM until 12:00 PM Central Time on 90.7 FM WKGC Public Radio, he guides listeners through five hours of Blues, Classic R&B, Soul, and the evolving sound of Southern Soul.
But the mission goes deeper than nostalgia.
B. Maxwell believes the music of yesterday should not be placed behind glass like something that belongs only in a museum. It should continue to breathe, move, teach, entertain, and connect generations.
That means giving legendary artists their flowers while their music is still being enjoyed. It means reminding younger listeners where many of today's sounds came from. It also means creating room for independent and emerging Southern Soul artists who may not receive meaningful exposure through mainstream media.
His approach to radio reflects that balance.
One hour might take listeners back to a record connected to a first love, a family cookout, a Saturday night, or a road trip. The next might introduce them to an artist they have never heard before.
That ability to connect memory with discovery sits at the heart of what B. Maxwell is building.
